Flexible Cystoscopy

Flexible Cystoscopy

Bladder problems can cause problems when passing urine as the bladder stores urine prior to its passage. Symptoms can include urinary frequency, urgency, pain passing urine (dysuria) and pain in the bladder ( interstitial cystitis), incontinence (involuntary leakage of urine), urinary tract infections and blood in the urine (haematuria).

Investigations will involve a urine test (dipstick, msu and or urine cytology). Investigations may also include filling out a bladder diary, a bladder scan or a camera inspection of the bladder (cystoscopy) normally under local anaesthetic. Other investigations may include a flow test and post void bladder scan and occassionally a test called urodynamics to assess the function of the bladder.

A wide range of treatments are available depending on the diagnosis.
